Good News From CMS

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The end of the 2nd mid-quarter is on Friday, November 9th.  CMS will mail home down slips on Thursday, November 7th.  The next Friday School opportunity will not be until December 7th, which is our next 1:30 dismissal.  Please encourage your student(s) to come in after school for help or to finish work if needed.

Congratulations to the CMS 6th, 7th, and 8th grade choir students on a great performance.  The 6th grade choir sang 4 songs: The Fly-Away Horse, That Dixieland Sound, Shooting Star, and What Color is the Music.  The 7th/8th grade choir sang three songs: Classic Alleluia Canon, Every Night When the Sun Comes In, and America: The Spirit Lives On!.

Governor Dave Heiniman, Senator Greg Adams, and Commissioner of Education Dr. Roger Breed visited Chadron Public Schools on November 30th.  They met with students, parents, teachers, CSC professors, Chadron School Board members, and CPS administration to discuss the great things that we are doing at Chadron Public Schools.  Some of the discussion topics included: the use of student data, dual credit classes, and relationship building with our students.  They also listened to some of the obstacles that we face as we strive to provide our students with an excellent education.

Students will be setting NWEA MAPS goals in English classes this week, math classes next week, and science classes the following week.  We will send a copy of the goal sheet home with your student(s) on December 3rd.  Please take some time to go over it with your student(s).

8th grade students from Mrs. Kaus' social studies classes will pay tribute to our nation’s veterans at the annual Veterans Day Program on November 9th.   The program will be held at the Chadron High School Auditorium at 10:15.  It is open to the public and we hope that many of our patrons will be able to attend.  Mrs. Kaus and her students will be on AM 610 KCSR on the morning of November 7th to talk about the program.

The annual CMS Caring for Sharing Food Drive will begin on November 12th and end on December 5th.  The class that collects the most non-perishable food goods will win the opportunity to play the CMS staff in a basketball or volleyball game on December 21st.  This is a great service opportunity for our students.

7th grade science students will take a field trip to the water treatment plant during their science period on November 20th.  This is an annual field trip that closes out the unit on bacteria and protists.

7th and 8th grade students will attend the Chardron High School One Act Play on November 20th at 2:40 PM in the CHS Auditorium.

Thanksgiving Break begins on November 21st.  We will have a full day of school on November 20th and school will resume on November 26th.
