Good News
From CMS
Dear
Parents/Guardians:
The
first quarter ends on October 12, 2012 and I can’t believe how fast the time has
passed! We will have our end of the
quarter awards assembly at 1:15 on Friday, October 12th in the CMS
gym and we will award students with:
- The Cardinal Effort Award, which is
given to two students in each grade that have really put forth their best
effort in their classes over the course of the quarter. This award is special because the
students’ teachers select the award winners.
- Perfect Attendance Awards, which are given to students that have not been tardy to class or missed a single day of school over the course of the quarter.
Many
of you may have read on the school’s Facebook page that we put new carpet in
the main entrance of the middle school.
The carpet is made out of recycled tires, so it is extra durable and it
is supposed to be easy to care for. We
put the carpet down as a safety measure to help keep the tile on the stairs dry
during the winter to reduce the risk of slips and falls.
Congratulations
to all of our student athletes on a great fall sports season! I am very proud of the way that our student
athletes represented our school and community.
Also, thank you to all of the parents for the outstanding support that
you gave your student athletes and our fall athletic programs! The football team still has two more games:
- October 13th: 7th and 8th
grade @ Gordon/Rushville; 7th grade game is at 9 and 8th
grade is at 10:30
- October 20th: 7th and 8th
grade vs. Mitchell at the HS field; 7th grade game is at 9 and
8th grade is at 10:30.
MAPS
testing began on October 8th and I’m proud of how hard the students
are working on their tests. This year we
are utilizing a laptop cart in certain classrooms as well as the two computer
labs. Although the laptops were a little
buggy at first, we have worked out the kinks and the tests are running
smoothly. The fall scores are a
benchmark so that we can measure growth when students take them again in the
spring. We do not report fall test
scores, but we report Spring Reading, Math, and Science scores.
CMS will be sell Halloween-grams to begin fundraising for students that qualify for the National History Day competition in Washington D.C. Students will begin selling Halloween-grams on October 22, and they will be passed out on October 31st.
On
November 9th, at 10:15am, Mrs. Kaus’ 4th period 8th
grade Social Studies class will host the 4th annual Veteran’s Day
program at the CHS Auditorium. The
program will include music, guest speakers, and ceremony designed to honor our
Nation’s veterans. The entire community
is invited to attend the program and we hope to see you there.
As
always, thank you for supporting your student and the programs at CMS.
Sincerely,
Nick
